The endowment fund
In addition to its mission as a leading business school, ESA is fully committed to the future of Lebanon by animating an innovative ecosystem with a real societal impact.
ESA has taken a decisive step by creating the FDESAB, the Beirut Business School Endowment Fund.
ESA Business School
Our vision, our values

Born on April 5, 1996 from a Franco-Lebanese intergovernmental agreement, the École supérieure des Affaires de Beyrouth (ESA) is a Business School dedicated to the training of executives and managers in Lebanon and the Middle East.
A non-profit association under Lebanese law, managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Paris Ile-de-France Region, ESA offers 11 degree programs, from Bachelor to Doctorate, and welcomes 550 students per year trained by more than 200 professors and international experts.
ESA trains the leaders of tomorrow and aims to be recognised as one of the best business schools in the region.
With its values and successes over the past 25 years, ESA is now a fully-fledged brand that enjoys a reputation commensurate with the excellence of its partnerships with the leading European schools.
ESA has a network of more than 4,500 graduates around the world who demonstrate a real attachment to their school.

The need for sponsorship
While Lebanon is going through an unprecedented crisis, philanthropy has once again proven its usefulness for society as a whole and for education in particular, by organising itself in the service of the most fragile.
A new UNICEF report on youth in Lebanon published on 28 January 2022 highlights the despair of Lebanese students hit hard by the economic and financial crisis.

Course
31% of young people do not continue their studies due to lack of resources.

Enrolments
For the academic year 2021-2022, only 43% of young people enrolled in an educational institution compared to 60% in 2020-2021.

Creating and maintaining the ESA Business School Endowment Fund
Numerous examples show the very concrete societal impact of this type of action. In general, companies prefer the creation of endowment funds (+15% since 2018), which are more flexible and less time-consuming, to foundations.

Our goals
Equal oportunities
Our Education and Pedagogical Innovation Unit is a unit specialised in supporting the educational ecosystem in Lebanon as well as in promoting innovation and new practices in the field of education.
In view of the Lebanese crisis and its consequences, access to education and especially to the grandes écoles is becoming increasingly restricted. In its desire to remain a school of meritocracy, ESA business school has always supported motivated and willing students, regardless of their condition, by awarding them scholarships in local currency.
However, ESA wishes to go further by giving itself the capacity to grant students scholarships in international currencies that would allow them to overcome the unprecedented crisis that affects Lebanon.
No talent should give up the prospect of being trained in our school for financial reasons. This is a matter of democratization of access to higher education and equal opportunities.
This is the challenge that we, as a community, must take up.

Support for research
Research is now the benchmark of excellence in management schools. It is essential to the good ranking and influence of the latter. Its mission is to support research excellence in order to maintain the necessary dialogue between the academic and business worlds. Thanks to the companies that work with the Foundation in a co-construction process with the School, the chairs and research and teaching circles contribute to the creation of knowledge and the emergence of innovative solutions.
Our Centre for Research, Study and Documentation (CRED) aims to understand and explain the realities of Lebanese and regional companies in order to facilitate their adaptation to the changes of the contemporary world :
- Publications & research
- Doctoral platform (DBA)
- Documentation center
Training, accommodation and federation of young researchers
Case study and production of new knowledge

Endowment fund
Form and funding
The endowment fund is a non-profit legal entity under private law, which receives assets of any kind, provided free of charge and irrevocably. It is therefore a “quasi-foundation” whose aim is to collect the funds necessary for its action, by resorting to sponsorship in all its forms from the founders or third parties, or by developing partnerships with any public interest organisation carrying out similar or complementary activities.
The Fund would allow us to collect funds in France from patronage in order to direct them to the School in Beirut.
We wished to be accompanied by an internationally renowned audit firm with recognised expertise in the field of law and taxation of non-profit organisations in order to set up the endowment fund.
Given the will of the Endowment Fund to collect funds in France and to make them eligible to the favourable patronage regime in order to be then transferred to the Lebanese School, a precise analysis was carried out by EY in order to secure the eligibility of the fund to the favourable patronage tax regime.
